Second game of Call of Duty series was carrying on the same basic idea of running 3 different campaigns for 3 different Allied nations throughout the World War 2 in Europe - United States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union. Again we take part in the important battles on different fronts - African desert, Russian winter and D-Day in Normandy.
British campaign starts in the Sahara desert during the Second Battle of El Alamein and after battles in different parts of Africa (Egypt, Tunisia) we end up in Caen during the offensive after the D-Day.
Russian campaign starts in Moscow when German forces besiege the city. After that we move to Stalingrad and take part in fights to push Germans out of the ruined city.
American campaign starts with attack on Pointe du Hoc during the D-Day landings made by 2nd Ranger Battalion. After taking the beachhead we push inland and fight the counterattack of Germans. Later we fight in Bergstein, take the Hill 400 and cross the River Rhein.
Very good game depicting few of the most interesting battles of World War 2 in Europe and Africa, but comparing to first game the character of the game has changed - the battles are much more intense, often you have to deal with heavy bombardment or enemy soldiers simply flooding your positions while you are trying to deal with the tasks. Also most of the battle have open-world-like battlefields, which means that you can deal with the events of the battles in different ways each time, you are limited only by the battlefield area borders. The battles themselves are, like in reality, chaotic and it takes some skills to survive when skirmish turns into a full scale attack or find the way to use guns or machine guns to gain advantage.
