Categories: infantry moviespartisans moviesresistance movies

Running time: 85 minutes

Language: English / German

Unit of Soviet guerrillas fight the German occupation forces near the town of Tula. They live in dugouts hidden in the forests and their only contact with outside world is when they fight the enemy or gather the supplies. One day an unexpected guest arrives to their camp - a ballet dancer Nina Ivanova got separated from her troupe while they were performing for the soldiers. She was found by the partisans and taken to their hideout, where she meets commander of that unit, Vladimir. Despite the distrust for her Vladimir lets her stay and soon most of the partisans are charmed by her beauty. When German soldier accidentally finds their dugout he is captured and Nina is the only person that stopped Vladimir from killing the prisoner. She insists that he should be given a fair trial. Vladimir agrees to her request, but when during the night German tries to escape Nina shoots him dead. From that point partisans see her as one of them.

Love story set in unusual time and place - during World War 2 in the partisans camp in occupied Soviet Union. Even the couple is unusual - veteran guerrilla fighter and ballet dancer. But rest of the production was rather typical for the era that Days of Glory were filmed - in the times of great chaos two people find themselves and their love is the only thing that keeps them immune to horror that is around them. The story is simple and often lacks realism, but the main aim for this movie (filmed during the war) was to boost morale, which explains some of the propaganda bits in the story. As war movie it is average at best, mostly due to lack of realism, but comparing to other love stories it is at least original.
