Jack and Bones, two not very bright young men, has just lost their jobs in electronics shop, but while they wander around the city and dream of opening their own electronics store they stumbled upon a pair of soldiers. This meeting gave Bones an idea - with no better way of finding a job or getting the money for rent, he thinks the army could be answer to their problems. In the army recruitment office they learn that to get nice sum of money each month all they have to do is sign up for the reserve service and finish army training camp. Jack is reluctant, but soon joins Bones during their preliminary course. From day one Bones gets in trouble with the officers - he just can’t help being himself, an airhead and joker, even while in the uniform. At the end Jack and Bones end up in the water treatment unit, an auxiliary service, together with dentist Fred and Christine, who is a little bit too anxious to see some combat. While Bones was convinced they reached their goal and all they have to do now is enjoy army payroll the conflict in Chad, after months of tensions, suddenly breaks out and their water treatment unit is sent into desert to support front line units. Not everything goes as planned...

War comedy with Pauly Shore, who does here what he has done in every of his movies - not much acting, not much sense, just clown around. He has not bad supporting cast, but unfortunately In The Army Now is a really badly written comedy, full of cliches, poor dialogues and really, really predictable jokes (I simply cannot imagine why it took 5 people to write such poor script). Pauly Shore plays the same character he always play (although it would be more accurate to call it "plays" since it has very little to do with acting) and overall it is just another poor quality productions he specialized in.

In The Army Now quotes

1st Sergeant Williams:
I am First Sergeant Brandon T. Williams. It is my intention to run this company like a clock. If one gear slips in my clock, my clock’ll tell the wrong time. If one spring is loose in my clock, my clock’ll tell the wrong time. First Sergeant Williams likes his clock to tell the right time. Do you understand me?
troops:
Yes, First Sergeant!
Jack Kaufman:
What did he just say?
Bones Conway:
I don’t know, something about his clock being broken.
